Disney has finally released the first trailer for the live-action Moana. Catherine Laga’aia stars as Moana, and she looks perfect for the role. Dwayne Johnson plays Maui, and though we don’t see him fully, he seems to be giving it his all. The CGI work looks solid, and the production quality seems top-notch.

However, the trailer also shows that this movie is basically a frame-by-frame remake of the 2016 animated film. That makes the story very predictable, and some fans wonder if this remake was really necessary so soon. Unlike live-action remakes that tap into nostalgia, like How to Train Your Dragon, Moana’s original film is less than a decade old, which could make it harder to impress audiences.

So while it looks well-made, whether it will succeed at the box office is still uncertain.
