Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps is slowly climbing the box office charts. After 28 days, it has earned $251.4 million in North America and $222.2 million internationally, giving it a worldwide total of $473.6 million. The movie is just shy of the $500 million milestone and is on track to surpass Steven Spielberg’s classic Jaws, which made $477.9 million globally.

This year has been tough for Marvel. No comic book movie has crossed the $700 million mark, and even MCU films like Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World stayed below $450 million. Fantastic Four is underperforming compared to expectations but still showing promise.

The film takes place in a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world. The Fantastic Four—Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm—must stop Galactus and his Herald, the Silver Surfer, from destroying Earth. The movie focuses on their teamwork and family bonds as the stakes become personal.

Released on July 25, First Steps is inching closer to the $500 million mark and could soon claim a spot among Marvel’s top-grossing films, while also edging past a legendary blockbuster like Jaws.
