A new internet buzzword is making the rounds after a Wicked fan spotted what looked like a hidden tribute in the upcoming Wicked: For Good movie. The fan shared a side-by-side image on X, comparing Margaret Hamilton, the original Wicked Witch of the West from the 1939 Wizard of Oz, with clouds in the new film that seemed to form her face.
Other fans were amazed by the detail. Some wrote, “THIS IS AN INSANE DETAIL!!!” and “Why did it literally take me all day to see it.” Others jokingly called the phenomenon “cornplating.”
So, what is cornplating? It’s a slang term for when people scrutinize tiny, often unimportant details in media, usually when there’s not much else to discuss. The term comes from a Disney Encanto post where a fan pointed out a character holding a plate of corn, sparking endless online discussion about something minor.
Fans are now debating whether the Wicked observation counts as real tribute or just cornplating. Either way, it’s captured the internet’s attention.
Wicked: For Good is set to hit cinemas on 21 November 2025.
