One of the most anticipated shows in worldwide OTT content is Fallout, with an exciting post-apocalyptic adventure based on the famous video game series, featuring extraordinary visuals, sharp humour, and historically accurate ideas through the journeys of the vault dweller Lucy, the Brotherhood knight Maximus, and the radioactive gunslinger (The Ghoul).

Fans are looking forward to Season 3 of the show that has multiple storylines, such as more exploration and fighting in the wasteland, more family secrets and brotherhood stories, and more chaotic survival humour, after the dramatic and explosive ending of Season 2 in early 2026. The filming for Season 3 is expected to start soon, with a planned release on Prime Video.

Fallout Season 3: Renewal and Status

The show was granted a third season renewal in May 2025, before season two aired (from Dec 2025 to Feb 2026).  Both the ratings from the audience and critics were very high, which is why it received this early pickup. Production is moving ahead much quicker than it did for prior seasons in order to reduce the time between seasons for the fans.

Fallout Season 3: Release Date Speculation

There hasn’t been a formal announcement as to when the film will be released. Filming is set to happen on May 1, 2025, in Santa Clarita, California (as per release information, filming was done at other locations within the United States before season 2).

Based on production timelines, including filming (which is expected to take several months), extensive visual effects, and post-production, most sources expect that the movie will be released in late 2026 (and possibly released in mid-to-late 2026). If this happens, that would put the time between seasons 2 and 3 at 18-24 months apart, which is shorter than typical for shows with extensive visual effects. More optimistic projections have been made for a release of the movie sometime in early 2026, but late 2026 is more widely supported as the most likely release window.

Fallout Season 3: Cast

The core cast is expected to return, with no major departures reported. Key returning stars include:

Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean
Aaron Moten as Maximus
Walton Goggins as Cooper Howard / The Ghoul

Other likely returnees based on Season 2 arcs and reports:

Kyle MacLachlan as Hank MacLean
Moisés Arias as Norm
Frances Turner as Barb Howard
Johnny Pemberton as Thaddeus (potentially with a transformed role)
Macaulay Culkin as Caesar (his character was introduced and is expected to expand)
– Supporting players like Michael Cristofer (Quintus), Xelia Mendes-Jones (Dane), and others tied to the Brotherhood or New Vegas elements.

New or expanded characters may appear, especially with teases toward Colorado, the Enclave, or Mr. House (potentially Justin Theroux).

Fallout Season 3: Plot Details

Although the plot details are still somewhat of a mystery (as scripts are still being written and production has yet to begin), Season 2 ends with several major plot points that lead into Season 3. These include:

– The build-up of conflict between New Vegas, where tensions between Mr. House/Robert House and the Strip are beginning to increase.

– The ongoing journey of Cooper Howard (the Ghoul) searching for his family, with Colorado appearing to be one of the places he may eventually wind up.

– The mind-controlled forces of Hank MacLean and the reason for their programming.

– Possible progressions within the Brotherhood of Steel (possible references to Liberty Prime/Alpha).
– The work being done with FEV (Forced Evolutionary Virus) through mutating individuals (i.e., the journey of Thaddeus evolving into a centaur-type creature).

– The Enclave is a growing opposing force.

The series is expected to expand the wasteland even farther, possibly discovering uncharted lands such as Colorado and deeper ties to the lore (including unreleased game material). There is also a possibility of larger-scale wars or mysteries being developed as well. Showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner, along with executive producer Jonathan Nolan, will all be returning in hopes of staying true to the Fallout canon as far as possible while expanding on the original story.

Currently, there has been no trailer or first-look footage released; we expect to see that later when production wraps or during promo cycles in 2027. The series will likely have a run of 5-6 seasons. Check back for updates once the production kicks into high gear!
