NFL star Stefon Diggs, who recently joined the New England Patriots, is in the middle of some off-field drama after a video of him partying on a yacht went viral.
In the clip, Diggs can be seen having fun on the boat when he hands a small bag with something inside to a woman. No one knows for sure what was in the bag, but the video quickly spread all over social media, and people started guessing.
So far, there’s no proof that Diggs was doing anything illegal or wrong. But the situation has still raised eyebrows, especially because Diggs is new to the Patriots, and the team is depending on him to be a big help to rookie quarterback Drake Maye.
Head coach Mike Vrabel said the team knows about the video and made it clear that he wants players to make smart choices both on and off the field.
Diggs didn’t join the team right away for OTA practices (organized team activities), although he had attended some voluntary ones earlier in the offseason. He just signed a three-year, $69 million deal with the Patriots in March, so the team clearly expects him to be a leader.
When reporters asked Diggs about the boat video on June 10, he didn’t give many details. He said the conversation is happening privately inside the team and he didn’t want to say too much. He also mentioned that he sees the video as part of his personal life, and that he already had a talk with Coach Vrabel about it.
The NFL has seen the video too, but a spokesperson said the league will not comment on it right now.
This isn’t the first time Diggs has been seen out and about this offseason, in May, he was also spotted sitting courtside at a basketball game next to Cardi B.
So, in short, there’s no real trouble yet, but all eyes are now on Diggs to see how he handles things, and if he stays focused on football.
What did Mike Vrabel say about Stefon Diggs?
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was asked about the viral yacht video involving Stefon Diggs during the team’s OTA practices, but he didn’t say much.
Vrabel confirmed that the team is aware of the video, but when it came to details, he kept things private.
“We want our players to make great decisions on and off the field,” Vrabel said. “Any conversations that I’ve had with Stefon will stay between him and me.”
Is Stefon Diggs at Patriots’ OTAs?
At first, Stefon Diggs didn’t show up for the Patriots’ voluntary OTA practices in late May, even though he had attended some earlier in the offseason.
People thought Diggs was planning to use training camp in July to slowly get back into shape, especially since he’s still recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in Week 8 last season while playing for the Texans. He had surgery soon after the injury.
While he wasn’t present at those May practices, Diggs posted on Instagram, saying he was thankful for the month and that he needed to stay focused.
But by June 2, Diggs was back on the field, working out with his new Patriots teammates and getting back into football mode.
