Evergy, the electricity provider, has appointed W. Bryan Buckler as its next executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO). Buckler, who will officially join the company on October 1st, previously held the position of CFO at OGE Energy, a regulated electric utility serving Oklahoma and western Arkansas. This leadership change comes after Kirk Andrews’ departure in June, who left Evergy to take on the CFO role at Consolidated Edison.

Buckler brings a wealth of experience to Evergy, having served in various senior financial roles throughout his career. His tenure at OGE Energy was marked by significant financial oversight and leadership, positioning him as a strong successor for the CFO role at Evergy. Geoff Ley, who has been acting as CFO since Andrews’ departure, will remain in the position until September 30th. Once Buckler officially begins his role, Ley will resume his duties as treasurer and vice president of corporate planning.

The leadership transition at Evergy is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to maintain strong financial stewardship and strategic planning. While Buckler’s compensation package was not disclosed in the company’s recent announcement, it’s noteworthy that his predecessor, Kirk Andrews, earned a base salary of $726,500 in 2023, according to a securities filing. This provides some context for the financial expectations associated with the CFO position at Evergy.
