Marjorie Taylor Greene is known for her extreme positions. She has pushed conspiracy theories, called for political opponents to be executed, claimed 9/11 was a hoax, and even introduced legislation banning “weather modifiers” she believes are secretly being used to manipulate natural disasters. But when it comes to Jeffrey Epstein, she’s taken a surprising stand that earns some rare praise.
Greene has broken with much of her Republican colleagues over the Epstein files. While many in the GOP are trying to block the release of documents that could implicate Donald Trump, Greene has insisted that the truth must come out, no matter the consequences.
She was one of only four House Republicans to sign a discharge petition pushing for the release. Alongside Thomas Massie, Lauren Boebert, and Nancy Mace, Greene made it clear she wants to “expose the cabal of rich and powerful elites.”
Now, Greene appears concerned about potential retaliation. She recently took to X, emphasizing that she is “not suicidal” and hinting that something might happen to her. Many observers are sympathetic, noting that we live in times when even a sitting member of Congress feels the need to make such statements public. Some argue that she is literally putting her life on the line: Epstein was silenced in prison, witnesses were silenced, and now anyone in power who exposes this network could be at risk.
It’s hard to know whether Greene’s fears are fully justified or a result of spending too long immersed in conspiracy thinking. Either way, the fact remains that she is willing to take a public stand against her own party to push for the release of the Epstein files.
Whatever you think of her politics, Greene’s willingness to stick her neck out in this case is notable. The hope is that she stays safe while doing so, and that the files she’s fighting for finally see the light of day.
