On a recent appearance on the Today show, Eva Mendes, wife of actor Ryan Gosling, candidly shared her decision to step back from her acting career after the birth of their daughters. Reflecting on their dynamic as a couple, Eva described an unspoken agreement wherein both pursued their respective careers while prioritizing their family life. “It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement that it was like, ‘Ok, he’s going to work and I’m going to work. I’m just going to work here. He went and he did his job. He just happens to be really good at his job. And he did it and he came home,” she explained. For Eva, the decision to step away from acting after welcoming their daughters was a “no-brainer,” as the nature of her profession often required her to be away from her family for extended periods due to filming locations.
Eva’s admiration for Ryan’s dedication to his craft has only grown over the years, particularly since they shared the screen in Derek Cianfrance’s 2012 crime drama, The Place Beyond the Pines. Recalling her experience working alongside Ryan, Eva expressed awe at his commitment to excellence and his ability to elevate the performances of his co-stars. “I have never experienced anything like that. The way he works, his commitment to his craft, how he wants to make everything as best as it can be, and that means making his co-stars as best as they can be,” she remarked, acknowledging Ryan’s exceptional talent.
Ryan and Eva’s relationship has been the subject of public fascination since they began dating in 2011. Although they have chosen not to marry, they share a deep bond and have welcomed two daughters together, born in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
Earlier this year, Eva took to Instagram to commend Ryan for his portrayal of Ken in Greta Gerwig’s satirical film Barbie. Despite facing criticism and ridicule for taking on the role, Ryan’s performance earned Eva’s admiration, prompting her to express pride in his ability to bring depth and originality to the character. She celebrated his success and resilience in the face of adversity, emphasizing his transformative portrayal that resonated with audiences and critics alike.
