Fortnite developers at Epic Games clearly love Peacemaker’s second season, just like fans do. John Cena’s character was recently added to the game as a skin, and his opening-sequence dance seemed like a perfect fit for Fortnite’s massive library of emotes. Players were excited to try it out in-game.
But there’s a problem. The latest episode of Peacemaker revealed that the “perfect dimension” Peacemaker is in is actually Earth-X, a world where Nazis won World War II. In this alternate reality, the American flag even has swastikas instead of stars.
Fans noticed something strange in the new opening dance. Some of Peacemaker’s arm movements vaguely form a swastika shape. While it’s not confirmed that the dance was meant to mimic a Nazi symbol, the resemblance was enough to alarm Epic Games. They quickly decided to remove the emote from Fortnite.
This isn’t just about optics. Countries like Germany have strict laws against displaying swastikas or anything that could be seen as glorifying Nazi symbols. That means the emote could have technically been illegal in certain regions while it was in the game.
Warner Bros and DC can claim it’s just a coincidence, similar to the first season, arguing the dance is meant to be silly rather than a symbol. But in the gaming world, even a hint of a Nazi reference is risky. Players could use it to harass others or cause controversy, making the removal the safest choice.
For now, Epic has yanked the emote, and Warner Bros is likely watching closely. Fans will have to wait for official confirmation on whether the dance was intentionally referencing the show’s shocking twist. In the meantime, Fortnite players won’t be able to bust out that particular Peacemaker dance.
