If you think Fortnite already has too much going on, get ready for something even bigger. Epic and Unity have signed a major deal that will let developers publish games made in the Unity engine directly inside Fortnite. Once everything is set up, Unity games will appear next to all the other experiences Fortnite already offers.

Unity’s cross-platform commerce system will also get support for Unreal Engine. This gives developers more freedom to manage digital items and payments on PC, mobile and the web.

This partnership is surprising because Unity is Unreal Engine’s biggest rival. Unreal is used by many major studios, while Unity remains the top choice for small teams and indie creators. By joining forces, Epic is making sure that more games from more developers can flow into Fortnite. With the battle royale, the racing modes, the Minecraft-style experiences and the endless player-made Islands, Fortnite is getting closer to becoming a complete metaverse.

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney explained the goal clearly. He said that companies need to work together to build an open and fair metaverse, similar to how the early web grew. He believes this deal will help developers make fun games, reach larger audiences and find success.

For creators, this deal opens a new path to get their games noticed and earn revenue inside one of the world’s biggest platforms. Details about when Unity games will officially appear in Fortnite will be shared next year.
