Though Elton John may have officially retired from touring, the iconic musician, 77, made a special appearance at Dua Lipa’s concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Thursday, October 17. The pair treated fans to a surprise performance of their 2021 hit duet, “Cold Heart.”

John, dressed in a burgundy suit and gold necklace, began the performance seated but later stood to sing alongside Lipa, 29, and her backup singers. Lipa, channeling John’s signature bold style, wore a black dress with a fluffy tulle skirt and a dramatic tulle and feathered cape.

John celebrated the moment by sharing clips from the concert on his Instagram Story the following day, writing “LOVE THIS!” alongside a fan video. Lipa’s concert, which was being filmed for TV, included the duet as part of her encore alongside songs like “Be The One,” “Don’t Start Now,” and her first-ever live rendition of “Dance the Night.” The event also featured songs from her latest album, Radical Optimism, released in May.

John’s appearance comes after he shared news about his recent health battles. Last month, he revealed that he had been recovering from a “severe eye infection” that left him with limited vision in one eye. “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” he explained in a September 3 Instagram post. Despite his health challenges, he expressed gratitude for his medical team and family, saying he was feeling positive about his recovery.

While attending the New York Film Festival premiere of Elton John: Never Too Late earlier this month, the singer spoke about his numerous surgeries over the years. “I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee,” he said, joking that his only original part left is his left hip.

Despite these health setbacks, John remains resilient. “I’m still here,” he told fans, adding, “And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me.”
