If you’ve just finished watching Duster on Max, chances are your jaw is still somewhere on the floor. The season finale didn’t just end, it exploded with cliffhangers, shocking twists, and unanswered questions that left fans everywhere saying, “Wait, that’s it?!”
One of the biggest questions on everyone’s mind? The fate of a major character is left unclear; are they alive, injured, or gone for good? And just when we thought we had a handle on all the shady figures in this gritty world, a new (or should we say old?) face suddenly appeared. This person was only mentioned in earlier episodes, but now we know they’re very much alive and might not be on the right side of things.
Needless to say, the final episode didn’t feel like a neat wrap-up. It felt more like the start of something bigger. That’s why fans are now asking the big question: Will there be a Season 2 of Duster?
Here’s what we know:
The show was co-created by Hollywood heavy-hitter J.J. Abrams (yup, the same guy behind Lost, Alias, and Star Wars) and writer LaToya Morgan. With names like that behind the wheel, Duster had high expectations, and it delivered a stylish, gritty crime drama packed with action, suspense, and a strong storyline set in 1970s America.
Even though there has been no official announcement yet from Max (formerly HBO Max) about a second season, fans are hopeful. The first season left the door wide open for more. And it doesn’t feel like the creators wrapped everything up just for the sake of it. If anything, it seems like they were preparing for what comes next—more chaos, more drama, and more stories to tell.
In interviews before the show aired, the creators even hinted that the Duster world was built with longevity in mind. That means we could see more if the show pulls in strong enough numbers and if the network believes there’s an audience that wants to keep riding along.
So what now?
For now, we wait. Max hasn’t renewed the show yet, but they also haven’t cancelled it, which is a good sign. If you’re a fan, the best thing you can do is stream the series, talk about it, and spread the word. The more attention Duster gets, the more likely the network is to bring it back.
Bottom line: Season 1 may be over, but the story isn’t. There’s still plenty of fuel left in this ride, and we’re all just hoping Duster gets the green light to keep going.
Has Duster been renewed for Season 2?
As of now, HBO Max hasn’t officially announced if Duster will return for Season 2. Fans are eagerly waiting to hear what’s next, but so far, there’s been no word on a renewal. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you posted as soon as any updates roll in!
Who will star in Duster Season 2?
If Duster does come back for Season 2, we can expect to see many familiar faces return. That likely includes Josh Holloway as Jim Ellis, the getaway driver who’s now turned into an FBI informant, alongside Rachel Hilson, who plays Nina Hayes, and Camille Guaty as Izzy. Fans can also look forward to seeing Asivak Koostachin as Awan Bitsui (Nina’s partner at the Bureau), Corbin Bernsen as Jim’s dad, Wade, and Benjamin Charles Watson and Sydney Elisabeth as siblings Royce and Genesis Saxton.
Adriana Aluna Martinez, who plays Luna, and Greg Grunberg, who portrays Abbott, would also likely be back.
However, there are still a few question marks, mainly around Keith David’s character, Ezra Saxton, whose fate was left hanging in the Season 1 finale. It’s unclear whether he’ll return.
And then there’s Joey, also known as Xavier, a character we’ve heard about but haven’t seen on screen yet. We still don’t know who will play him if the story continues.
What will happen in Duster Season 2?
There’s a lot left hanging after Duster Season 1, and if the show gets renewed, Season 2 will have some serious ground to cover.
First, there’s the big question about Ezra Saxton’s fate. He was shot in the chest in the finale, and we still don’t know if he survived. His son Royce was last mentioned as being “still at the hospital,” likely waiting by his dad’s side. What happens next could deeply affect both Royce and his sister Genesis.
Izzy’s health battle is another storyline that needs answers. She’s currently going through chemotherapy, and that raises questions about how her illness will affect her bond with Jim. Let’s not forget, Luna still calls Jim “Uncle Jim,” even though he’s her father. There’s definitely more emotional depth to explore there.
Meanwhile, Nina will likely play a bigger role with the FBI, especially in hunting down a major national security threat—Xavier, who shockingly turns out to be Jim’s long-lost brother Joey. Joey was presumed dead in an explosion, and Jim and their father, Wade, even mourned him. But it turns out that Ezra Saxton secretly helped Joey disappear. If Ezra survives, that whole dynamic is bound to get even more complicated.
Show co-creator LaToya Morgan told TV Insider that she’s super excited to dive deeper into Joey’s mysterious story. “Who is Joey now?” she teased. “What’s he been up to? Who’s he been involved with?” She hinted that his return would shake things up between Jim and Nina, just when they were finally starting to trust each other.
And for those wondering about romance, a love story might be brewing, too. Morgan revealed that a romantic future between Jim and either Nina or Izzy is “on the table.”
