Drake Bell, best known for his role in Drake & Josh, has taken the final legal steps to end his marriage to Janet Von Schmeling. Public records reveal that Bell filed documents in Seminole County, Florida, on Thursday, August 14, moving forward with the divorce process that Von Schmeling initiated in 2023 in Los Angeles County due to “irreconcilable differences.”
Bell’s manager, Juan José Rovirosa, emphasized that the latest filing is purely administrative. In a statement to PEOPLE, he said, “At this stage, both of them are simply concluding that legal process.” He added that the former couple remains focused on the safety and well-being of their son, describing the situation as “closing a beautiful chapter of their lives” handled with love and respect.
Bell has been vocal about co-parenting with Von Schmeling. On the July 2 episode of The Unplanned Podcast with Matt & Abby, he shared how he and Von Schmeling maintain a consistent message of respect for their 4-year-old son, Jeremy. “All my son knows […] is that me and his mom love each other, we’re not together but we love each other and we respect each other and we love him unconditionally,” Bell explained. He noted that both parents only praise each other in front of Jeremy, ensuring their son feels loved and secure.
Bell and Von Schmeling dated for five years before marrying in 2018, though Bell did not publicly confirm the marriage until 2021. Von Schmeling filed for divorce in 2023, and Bell’s August 14 filing in Florida now moves the proceedings closer to finalization.
Rovirosa stated that Bell is currently focused on his music and ongoing projects, while both parents continue to make decisions with Jeremy’s best interests at heart, signaling an amicable approach to ending their marriage.
