Downton Abbey has been a beloved story for over a decade. It first started as a TV series in 2010. The show followed the Crawley family and their loyal staff in the early 1900s. After six seasons, the story moved to the big screen. Three films continued the tale, with the last one, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, released on September 12. The movie had a modest box office run and marked the end of this chapter.

The Grand Finale will be available to stream on Peacock starting November 7. Its DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K release will follow on November 11. Digital rentals and purchases have been available since September 30. Fans who want to revisit the series can also stream all six seasons and the first two films, Downton Abbey (2019) and A New Era (2022), on Peacock.

Directed by Simon Curtis and written by Julian Fellowes, The Grand Finale takes the story into the 1930s. Lady Mary Talbot faces a public scandal, and the Crawley family struggles with financial pressure. The film had a budget of $50 million and earned over $100 million worldwide. It received a 91% critics’ score and 96% from audiences, making it the most well-loved chapter of the franchise.

In North America, it made $45 million, while international earnings reached $55.4 million, for a total of $100.4 million. The movie also honors Dame Maggie Smith, whose role as Violet Crawley brought much of the series’ heart and humor. She passed away two years after A New Era.

With this finale, producer Gareth Neame and Julian Fellowes have closed the door on one of TV’s most cherished stories. While there are no current plans for another chapter, they hinted that the world of Downton Abbey could return someday in a new way. For now, this is the final bow for the Crawleys.
