Dominique Thorne is set to reprise her role as Riri Williams in the upcoming Marvel series Ironheart. Fans first saw her in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where Riri was introduced as a brilliant inventor tracked down by Shuri and Okoye after creating a device that can detect vibranium through any material.
In the new series, Thorne returns as the MCU shifts its focus to Chicago, where Riri is busy crafting advanced iron suits. The official synopsis reveals that she is a teenage genius who creates the most advanced armor since Iron Man.
However, viewers shouldn’t expect the series to cover Riri’s origin story from Wakanda Forever, as Thorne explained to The Wrap that the movie dropped fans right into the middle of her journey.
She elaborated, “That experience takes her totally out of her world, where she felt comfortable, and into several new worlds she’s unfamiliar with.” Thorne added, “She has to reckon with the consequences of her own ambition, which created the circumstances that everyone, including herself, now faces.”
The trailer opens with a tense scene: Riri trapped in an elevator where a voice warns her that the air will run out in about three minutes. When she asks what’s happening, the voice tells her it’s an interview — and that she’ll suffocate unless she breaks a device on the floor.
Alongside Thorne, the series stars Anthony Ramos, Manny Montana, Shea Coulie, Sacha Baron Cohen, Lyric Ross, and others.
Ironheart will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting June 24.
