Brandon Sklenar is getting a big break starring alongside Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney in the upcoming movie The Housemaid. But interestingly, it was Blake Lively who helped him land the role.
Director Paul Feig shared this story on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He said that while he had already picked Amanda and Sydney for their roles, he was still looking for the perfect actor to play the male lead. That’s when Blake Lively stepped in with a glowing recommendation.
Blake had just finished filming It Ends With Us with Brandon and told Paul Feig, “You have to meet this guy—he’s amazing.” Curious, Feig invited Brandon to lunch. After just half a minute, Feig was hooked. He called Brandon “the most charismatic guy you’ve ever met” and said he’s incredibly talented.
The Housemaid is based on a bestselling thriller by Frieda McFadden. The story is about Millie, a homeless woman who gets hired as a housekeeper for a seemingly perfect family. But soon, dark secrets start coming to light behind their closed doors.
Even though the movie was tough to shoot—only 34 days and more than 200 scenes—Feig said the cast was fantastic and always delivered their best. He’s really excited for everyone to see it and confirmed that the film will be released in theaters.
Thanks to Blake Lively’s recommendation and Paul Feig’s direction, The Housemaid looks set to be a gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller. Brandon Sklenar’s career is definitely on the rise, proving that sometimes landing the right role comes with a little help from friends. Keep an eye out for The Housemaid when it hits the big screen!
