Perrie Edwards has opened up about the painful journey she went through before becoming a mother. In a candid conversation on the We Need to Talk podcast, the Little Mix star revealed that she suffered multiple miscarriages before welcoming her son Axel in 2021. Edwards admitted that the experience was deeply personal and difficult, which is why she had not spoken about it publicly until now.

The singer explained that she and her fiancé, footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, have faced many challenges when it comes to pregnancies. She recalled that when she first became pregnant, she started bleeding early on and was told at the hospital that there was no baby. “I remember going in to see my gynecologist after with the reports, and I was like, ‘Can you just explain to me? So there was no baby?’ He was like, ‘No no no, my darling, you’ve had a miscarriage.’ And I was like, ‘Oh. Okay,’” she said, describing how difficult it was to process the loss.

Afterward, Edwards became pregnant again and carried Axel to term, but her struggles did not end there. A year later, she once more believed she was expecting, with all the symptoms pointing toward pregnancy. Tragically, at the 22-week scan, she discovered she had lost the baby. Reflecting on that moment, Edwards said the pain was much harder the second time. “I think I was just traumatized. It’s weird because the first time it happened, I think because it was so early, I was like, ‘Oh. That’s sad.’ But I think when you’re fully carrying and you’re 24 weeks and you’ve planned out their room and all these things, it’s really hard.”

Edwards admitted that the heartbreak left her feeling devastated and too sad to talk about publicly in the past. She emphasized that her silence was not out of shame but simply because of how painful and private the experience was. Today, she is cherishing motherhood with her 4-year-old son Axel, while continuing to be open about the challenges she and Oxlade-Chamberlain endured along the way.
