As we approach June, anticipation for the upcoming iPhone 16 series is growing. Production for a critical component, the OLED screens, is about to commence for three of the four new models. Korea’s The Elec reports that mass production of OLEDs for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, and iPhone 16 Pro is set to begin, pending Apple’s final approval. However, the iPhone 16 Pro Max OLED screen is still undergoing fine-tuning, with approval expected by the end of June.
Apple is collaborating with three major OLED suppliers for the iPhone 16 series. Samsung Display, a long-time Apple partner, will manufacture panels for all four models. LG will contribute to the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max displays, while BOE will handle the screens for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
Significant design changes are expected for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. These models will likely feature a vertical pill-shaped camera island, replacing the diagonal layout seen in recent years. This new design will resemble the iPhone X’s rear camera system but with larger dimensions to accommodate improved lenses and sensors.
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are rumored to include a new Capture button, which will be flush with the phone’s frame. Its function is currently unknown but could serve as a camera shutter button or be customizable, similar to the action button on the iPhone 15 Pro series.
