In a recent episode of the “Powerful Truth Angels” podcast, Lola Glaudini spilled the beans on a not-so-pleasant encounter with the legendary Johnny Depp during the filming of “Blow.” Picture this: Lola’s on set, doing her thing, when she’s suddenly hit with the full force of Depp’s wrath faster than a pirate ship in a storm.
According to Glaudini, she was innocently following director Ted Demme’s orders to let out a big belly laugh during one of Depp’s monologues. But oh no, Captain Jack Sparrow himself wasn’t having it. Allegedly, Depp marched over, wagging his finger like a disappointed parent and unleashing a tirade fit for a Hollywood drama.
“Who the heck do you think you are?” Depp supposedly spat, his finger practically doing semaphore in Glaudini’s face. “Shut it, shut it, shut it! I’m here trying to deliver my lines, and you’re stealing the limelight, you nincompoop!”
First day on set, and Glaudini’s already facing the wrath of Hollywood royalty. Talk about a baptism by fire! But did she crumble? Did she let the tears flow like a bad movie ending? Oh no, dear reader. Instead, she channelled her inner New Yorker, courtesy of some sage advice from Papa Glaudini: “Don’t let ’em see you sweat.”
So, when Depp attempted his best non-apology apology later in the day, Glaudini played it cool as a cucumber. “Oh, that whole ‘I was in character’ excuse?” she probably thought, rolling her eyes internally. “Sure, Jan.”
But wait, the plot thickens! Depp’s representative swiftly came to his defense, citing the testimony of Samuel Sarkar, the sound technician extraordinaire. According to Sarkar, who’s probably got ears sharper than a pirate’s cutlass, there was nary a whisper of Depp’s outburst. Talk about audio surveillance worthy of the FBI!
In the end, Glaudini’s story serves as a cautionary tale for all aspiring actors: Beware the wrath of the Depp. But hey, at least it makes for one heck of a podcast anecdote, right?
