Google’s Pixel phones have encountered various software issues over the years, but the company has generally been swift in addressing them. However, one persistent and particularly irksome issue, the scrolling stutter, may not see a resolution anytime soon.

The scrolling stutter, which disrupts the smoothness of scrolling animations, has been a source of frustration for many Pixel users, especially those using the Pixel 8 Pro. Although it has also been reported on other models, it appears to be most prevalent on the Pixel 8 Pro.

While there’s good news that Google has marked this issue as ‘fixed’ on its official issue tracker, the bad news is that the fix may not arrive until the release of Android 15. In a comment regarding the fix, Google stated that “ongoing optimizations in performance and power are slated for the next Android release.” These optimizations aim to improve overall system UI performance and address issues tied to certain Android applications.

Although the wording is somewhat ambiguous, it’s widely interpreted that the “next Android release” refers to Android 15 rather than a minor update to Android 14. Consequently, users may have to wait until around August, based on past release schedules, for the fixed issue to become available to most users.

However, for those willing to take the risk, there’s the option of trying out the developer preview of Android 15, with the first public beta expected in April. While this may introduce additional bugs and instability, it offers an opportunity to potentially address the scrolling issue sooner.

Regardless of whether users are affected by the scrolling problem, the wait for Android 15 may prove worthwhile. The upcoming update is anticipated to bring significant features such as lock screen widgets, a battery health percentage indicator, support for Bluetooth Auracast, and more.
