Did BLACKPINK use AI in Jump music video teaser?

BLACKPINK is facing backlash from some fans following the release of the teaser for their upcoming music video Jump, which drops in two days. While excitement remains high for their first comeback in nearly three years, a portion of the fanbase has expressed concern over the teaser’s visuals, accusing YG Entertainment of using AI-generated content.

The criticism mainly stems from a 30-second concept teaser released on July 7. In the clip, the members—Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa—appear on towering digital billboards above a cityscape. However, viewers on Reddit and other platforms pointed out that the members looked “unrecognizable” and “heavily altered.” Some claimed that their faces appeared distorted, with a few even saying they resembled other K-pop idols rather than themselves.

One scene, in particular, caught widespread attention—where the girls appear on high-rise billboards. Fans suspected this part was generated using AI tools, citing unnatural movements and facial renderings. Comments described it as “painfully obvious” and accused the label of not even trying to preserve their real appearances.

This has reignited the debate around the increasing use of AI in K-pop. Some fans believe that AI visuals, while flashy, undermine the value of real human artistry—including stylists, designers, illustrators, and VFX teams. Critics argue that relying too much on AI could strip the music of its authentic feel and result in less emotionally engaging content.

Despite the criticism, many fans are still looking forward to the full MV. However, the controversy puts a spotlight on how companies use new tech in creative production—and how audiences are growing more aware and critical of it.
