Denzel Washington, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, was involved in a tense moment with a photographer at the Cannes Film Festival. This happened during the premiere of Spike Lee’s latest movie, Highest 2 Lowest, which stars Denzel and marks their fifth collaboration. Interestingly, it was Denzel’s first time back at Cannes since 1993.

A video shared by the New York Post showed Denzel clearly annoyed, pointing his finger and shouting “stop” at a pushy photographer on the red carpet. The photographer seemed to try to laugh it off and even grabbed Denzel’s arm, but the actor pulled away and repeated his demand to stop.

Photographers at Cannes are known to be loud and aggressive to get the stars’ attention, so confrontations like this aren’t unheard of.

Despite the drama, Denzel had a big moment at the festival: Spike Lee gave him a surprise Honorary Palme d’Or award before the movie’s screening. Cannes director Thierry Fremaux also presented a special montage celebrating Denzel’s iconic work, including Malcolm X and Mo’ Better Blues, both Spike Lee films.
