Death and Other Details” has been axed by Hulu after just one season, signaling the end of the road for the murder mystery series. The cancellation news arrives shortly after the Season 1 finale, which aired on March 5, leaving fans of the show disappointed. Despite boasting a star-studded cast including Violett Beane, Mandy Patinkin, and Lauren Patten, among others, the series failed to gain traction with audiences and critics alike.

The show, described as set amidst the glamour of the global elite, followed the story of Imogene Scott (played by Beane), who finds herself entangled in a locked-room murder mystery aboard a lavishly restored Mediterranean ocean liner. To prove her innocence, she teams up with Rufus Cotesworth (Patinkin), the renowned detective, despite their mutual dislike for each other.

Created and executive produced by Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams, who also served as showrunners, the series failed to captivate viewers, failing to secure a spot in the Nielsen Top 10 streaming rankings since its debut on Hulu. Additionally, critical reception was lukewarm, with the first season garnering a modest 55% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Critics pointed out issues with the show’s convoluted plotlines and lack of clarity in some episodes, with Variety’s Aramide Tinubu noting, “Because of the large cast and ever-evolving plot, some episodes lack clarity. Moreover, no living person aboard the ship, except maybe That Derek, is likable. As the storylines and secrets pile up, the mystery becomes more of a confusing maze than an intriguing puzzle.”

With Hulu’s decision to cancel “Death and Other Details,” fans will have to bid farewell to the series, marking the end of its brief run on the streaming platform.
