Charlie Cox, best known for playing Daredevil in the Marvel universe, has been gaining even more attention lately — not just for his on-screen roles but for his unexpected voice work in the 2025 hit video game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The actor recently opened up about the experience, and his thoughts might surprise fans who loved the game.
In a casual and honest chat during a recent Comic Con event, Cox admitted that he doesn’t feel especially proud of his role in the game. He voiced the main character, Gustave, who plays a central part in the story, but the actor revealed that he hasn’t even played the game himself. In fact, he confessed that he doesn’t play video games at all and feels a bit strange getting so much credit for something he barely spent time on. He said he was only in the recording studio for about four hours and joked that people keep congratulating him even though he feels like he didn’t really do much. Still, he’s genuinely happy for the team behind the project and grateful that it turned out to be such a success.
The game itself, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has become one of the most talked-about releases of the year. Created by a young, lesser-known team called Sandfall, the game impressed players with its striking visuals, emotional storytelling, and immersive gameplay. It started out as a small RPG title trying to make its mark but quickly captured attention, turning into a fan favorite almost overnight. Players have especially appreciated the voice acting, noting that Charlie Cox’s performance as Gustave added depth to the experience — even if the actor himself isn’t convinced.
Despite feeling like a bit of a fraud, Cox’s humility and honesty have made fans like him even more. He may not be a gamer or fully connected to the project, but his involvement has definitely added to the game’s charm for many players.
Meanwhile, Cox is also getting ready to return as Daredevil in the upcoming season 2 of the Marvel series, where he’ll step back into the role of Matt Murdock — one he clearly feels more at home in.
