The Las Vegas Raiders have already made some big moves this offseason, but could they be adding George Pickens to the mix? After a rough 2024 season that ended with a disappointing 4-13 record, the Raiders brought in veteran head coach Pete Carroll and reunited him with quarterback Geno Smith, who they acquired in a trade. While this familiarity could help stabilize the team, the offense still needs more weapons.
One name that has surfaced in trade speculation is Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo recently named the Raiders as a potential landing spot if the Steelers decide to move on from him.
Why would the Raiders want George Pickens?
The Raiders’ current receiver group lacks a true game-changer outside of veteran Jakobi Meyers, who posted a career-high 1,087 receiving yards in 2024. They have talented tight end Brock Bowers, but their receiver depth is thin, with Ramel Keyton and Tre Tucker currently set to start. That’s not an ideal situation for a team hoping to compete.
Pickens, on the other hand, has shown flashes of elite ability. In 2023, he led the NFL in yards per reception and put up 1,140 yards and five touchdowns. However, his production dipped in 2024 to 900 yards and three touchdowns. Despite his talent, concerns about his maturity and attitude have reportedly made the Steelers hesitant to commit to him long-term—especially after they recently traded for star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf.
A Cryptic Social Media Post Sparks Speculation
Trade rumors around Pickens heated up after he posted a picture of himself standing next to Tom Brady on social media. While it’s unclear if this was meant to hint at a potential move, it certainly raised eyebrows. Brady, who recently became a minority owner of the Raiders, is rumored to be taking a more hands-on role with the team. Could this be a sign that he’s trying to bring Pickens to Vegas?
If the Raiders want Pickens, they’d likely have to give up significant draft capital—possibly as high as a second-round pick. Pittsburgh might be interested in acquiring Jakobi Meyers in return, but Las Vegas would probably prefer to keep their top receiver. If Meyers isn’t included in the deal, draft picks would likely be the main trade asset.
Would Pickens thrive in Vegas?
Under Pete Carroll’s leadership and with a steady veteran quarterback like Geno Smith, Pickens could reach his full potential in Las Vegas. He wouldn’t have to be the sole focal point of the offense, thanks to the presence of Bowers and Meyers. Instead, he could take advantage of one-on-one matchups and showcase his deep-threat ability.
For now, Pickens remains a Steeler. But with trade rumors swirling and the Raiders in desperate need of another playmaker, this is a situation worth watching.
