Colin Farrell, who gained critical acclaim for his role as a Gotham gangster in The Penguin on Prime Video, is reportedly in talks to star in Sgt. Rock, a World War II action movie produced by DC Studios. This project will mark his return to the superhero universe following his role in The Batman and its spin-off The Penguin. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, known for Challengers, Sgt. Rock will focus on the character of Sgt. Rock, the tough leader of Easy Company during World War II.

DC Studios originally considered Daniel Craig for the titular role, but the Casino Royale actor reportedly stepped away from the project to join Greta Gerwig’s Narnia reimagining for Netflix. However, DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran clarified that no official offer was made to Craig and that they were waiting to find “the perfect actor” for the role. Production on Sgt. Rock is set to begin this summer at DC Studios’ production hub in England, and Farrell, if officially cast, would bring his renowned versatility to the role of Sgt. Rock, a character created in 1959 by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert.

Over the years, several notable actors, including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, were reportedly in talks to play Sgt. Rock, but the project never materialized. Farrell’s transformation into his role as the crime lord in The Batman and The Penguin showcased his ability to bring depth and nuance to his characters, earning him multiple prestigious awards, including a SAG Award, Golden Globe, Critics Choice Award, and a Saturn Award.

As for DC Studios, their 2025 slate includes the highly anticipated Superman film, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, set to release on July 11.

You can stream The Penguin on Amazon Prime Video for now, and stay tuned for updates on Farrell’s potential casting in Sgt. Rock.
