Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young was arrested early Tuesday morning on misdemeanor charges of assault and battery on an unborn child, according to the Athens-Clarke County Jail website. Young, who transferred to Georgia from Miami, was booked at 4:18 a.m. with bond set at $2,500. He remained in custody for several hours following his arrest.

In the arrest report, the complainant, identified as Young’s ex-girlfriend, claimed the two had a heated argument after she discovered Young was on the phone with another woman. The woman alleged that Young grabbed her arm, pulled her out of the room, and locked himself in his bedroom. When she received a phone call, she said Young emerged from the room and physically picked her up, squeezing her torso and abdomen. The woman reportedly had bruising and discoloration on her abdomen and chest.

Police officers noted that the woman declined an ambulance but agreed to be transported to the hospital if necessary. When questioned, Young denied grabbing the woman and suggested that her injuries were not caused by him.

This arrest marks the latest in a series of legal issues for the Georgia football program, which has seen a significant number of players arrested for various incidents in recent months, including multiple driving-related offenses.

Young, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 215 pounds, joined Georgia after two seasons at Miami, where he had a standout career, catching 79 passes for 930 yards and 10 touchdowns over the past two seasons. Only a few months had passed since Rara Thomas, another wide receiver, was cut from the club after being arrested twice for domestic abuse.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has yet to make a public statement on the matter, and Georgia Athletics has emphasized that this is a pending legal issue.
