Classic French Onion Soup is a comforting bowl of warmth that features caramelized onions, rich beef broth, and a blanket of melted cheese. This recipe offers a timeless and indulgent soup experience that’s perfect for chilly days.
Ingredients:
- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 6 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup dry white wine (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Baguette slices
- Gruyere cheese, grated
Instructions:
- In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden brown, about 30-40 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over the caramelized onions and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Slowly pour in beef broth and white wine (if using), stirring to combine. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Bring the soup to a simmer and cook for an additional 20-30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
