Google has added a new upgrade to its Chrome browser that makes autofill smarter. Until now, Chrome could only fill in basic details like your name, address, passwords, and payment info. With this update, it can now also help fill out forms that ask for things like passport numbers, driver’s licence details, and even vehicle registration data.
If you use Chrome on your computer and have enhanced autofill turned on, the browser will now recognize fields for documents like passports, driving licences, VINs, or licence plates. It will then offer to fill them in automatically. Google says Chrome has also learned to better understand tricky online forms, so it can fill them out more accurately across different websites.
Privacy is still a big focus. Chrome will only save and use your personal details if you give it permission. All saved data will be encrypted for safety, and before any information is filled in, you’ll be asked to confirm it.
The new autofill options are being released worldwide in every language, and Google plans to add support for even more document types soon.
This update comes as Google continues improving Chrome to compete with newer browsers powered by artificial intelligence. Recently, Google expanded access to its Gemini AI tools for all Mac and Windows users in the US. The company also has bigger plans to bring AI deeper into Chrome, including features like smarter searches, scam protection, password resets, and easier switching between work and personal accounts.
Smaller updates have already rolled out too, such as Chrome automatically turning off notifications from inactive sites and making it simpler to switch between Google accounts.
