Chrissy Teigen has revealed that she turned to the weight loss drug Ozempic after struggling with her body image following a miscarriage in 2020. She and her husband, John Legend, were expecting a baby boy when, at 20 weeks, Teigen was diagnosed with a partial placental abruption. This meant the placenta detached from the uterus, cutting off oxygen and nutrients to the baby and putting Teigen’s life at risk. Sadly, the pregnancy had to be terminated.
In a recent episode of her Self Conscious podcast, Teigen explained how the loss left her body “stuck” and caused her to gain about 40 pounds. Feeling frustrated with her low self-esteem, she decided to try Ozempic. She took the medication for a year and, though she noticed no change at first, it eventually helped her lose weight.
Teigen said losing the weight had a surprising impact on her mental health. It helped her stop feeling trapped in sadness and depression caused by seeing her pregnant belly without a baby. She also felt freed from unhealthy thoughts about food.
Sharing the podcast on Instagram, Teigen encouraged openness about the drug, calling it a “dirty little buzzword” that people often judge. She emphasized that before Ozempic, she felt like her body “didn’t feel like mine” and had nothing to celebrate, just a constant reminder of her loss.
