The Philadelphia Eagles’ offense has faced steady criticism throughout the 2025 NFL season.

Production has fallen short of expectations. Saquon Barkley has not matched his record setting numbers from last year. AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith both crossed 1,000 receiving yards, but the statistics have not fully reflected how the unit has performed.

The Eagles have openly acknowledged their offensive struggles. Consistency has been an issue, and scoring has often failed to match the team’s talent level.

Former NFL defensive end and 2 time Super Bowl champion Chris Long believes the Eagles are heading into a favorable playoff matchup.

Speaking on his podcast this week, Long said Philadelphia’s upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers presents an opportunity for the offense to reset.

He described the matchup as beneficial given San Francisco’s defensive struggles this season. Long said that if the Eagles’ offense cannot perform against the weakest defense left in the postseason, it would signal serious problems for the team.

Long added that if Philadelphia were to lose a low scoring game to the 49ers, it would raise concerns about the direction of the offense. He noted that San Francisco’s defense has lost key players and has not been strong throughout the year.

According to Long, the real battle in the game will be the Eagles’ defense against the 49ers’ offense. He said that matchup will ultimately decide the outcome.

The Eagles have kept a measured tone ahead of the game. Publicly, they are not making bold offensive claims. Internally, the focus remains on execution.

Philadelphia’s defense has carried the team for much of the season. With the 49ers struggling defensively, the Eagles have a clear opening to take advantage.

Last postseason, Philadelphia elevated its offensive play at the right time. Whether the team can repeat that this year will soon be answered.

The Eagles and 49ers are set to kick off at 4:30 PM ET on Sunday.
