Chris Hemsworth is officially hammering his way back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Australian actor has kicked off his training regime in full force as he gears up to reprise his iconic role as Thor in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. On social media, Hemsworth gave fans a thrilling sneak peek into his prep with a workout video that featured him delivering fierce punches and knees to a heavy bag — captioned, “A little Avengers pre game warm up, coming in hot.”
The post quickly went viral, igniting excitement among fans eager to see Hemsworth don the red cape once more. Known for his rigorous fitness routines, the Extraction star is clearly committed to maintaining his superhero physique as he returns to the role that helped define a generation of Marvel storytelling.
Directed by MCU veterans Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious projects in Marvel history. The ensemble cast includes a sprawling roster of fan-favorite characters: Anthony Mackie returns as Captain America, alongside Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki).
Adding to the excitement is the crossover with Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps, bringing in Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm), and Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm). But the biggest surprise yet? Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly back — not as Tony Stark, but in a shocking twist, playing the villain Doctor Doom.
As if that weren’t multiverse-shattering enough, the film will also welcome back legacy characters from Fox’s original X-Men universe. Confirmed to return are Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and James Marsden (Cyclops). Their inclusion has stirred speculation that Marvel might be teasing a cinematic Avengers vs. X-Men showdown.
While the plot remains under wraps, the film’s sheer scale and inter-franchise lineup strongly hint at a multiversal clash. Given the magnitude of the cast and the high-stakes storytelling, Avengers: Doomsday is positioned as a pivotal installment in Phase Six of the MCU.
The screenplay is penned by Marvel regulars Michael Waldron (Loki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Stephen McFeely (Avengers: Endgame), promising a blend of emotional depth and cosmic spectacle.
Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on May 7, 2027 — marking what could be the most epic one-two punch in Marvel’s cinematic saga yet.
