Bodies of Israeli residents and Palestinian militants lay outside of burned-out homes in Israeli kibbutz Kfar Aza on Tuesday, days after Hamas launched a surprise attack on the southern territory of Israel by firing barrage of rockets and infiltrating the border with its militants.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) took a team of foreign reporters to the site, as they visited house to house collecting the dead bodies in a body bags and loading them onto a truck. Among the killed were children, women, and elderly, said the IDF.
The horrifying details of attacks on the border communities are just coming to light. Kfar Aza is one of the many kibbutizm, small farming enclave, that suffered the brunt of Hamas’ ground assault.
The kibbutizm means a settlement by a small group of people, who set up communities based on the idea of communal living. About 125,000 people across 250 kibbutizms in Israel, and it go back to the time of the founding of the country. For many, they were the symbol of good life and safety.
A number of kibbutizm and towns were targets by Hamas in their first round of assault which included Kfaz Aza, Sderot, Yated, Be’eri, Urim, Ofakim, Yad Mordechai, and Kissufim. Revelers at a music festival, held in desert outside Be’eri, were either gunned down or taken hostage.
