Chelsea played a brilliant all-round game to beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the Club World Cup final, securing the world champion title for the next four years.
It was a near-perfect performance from the Blues. On the attack, Cole Palmer stole the show with his creativity and goals, leading Chelsea to glory. But just as impressive was their rock-solid defence, they completely shut down PSG’s star-studded frontline, something very few teams have managed.
While the whole Chelsea defence deserves credit, one player stood out to a football legend, right-back Malo Gusto.
Former Chelsea star and World Cup winner Frank Leboeuf had high praise for Gusto’s performance in the final. Speaking after the match on ESPN FC, Leboeuf pointed out how well Gusto handled two of PSG’s most dangerous players: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nuno Mendes.
Kvaratskhelia, who joined PSG from Napoli in January and scored in the Champions League final, is known as one of the most threatening wingers in football. But in this match, Gusto kept him quiet, even celebrating a successful one-on-one duel during the game.
Leboeuf said:
“Overall, there is nothing to complain about. Malo Gusto was able to cope with Kvaratskhelia and Mendes at the same time with the help of his teammates. At the back, they were strong.”
Gusto’s standout performance hasn’t gone unnoticed. Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing him this summer. And after this display, that interest could seriously heat up.
For now, though, Chelsea fans will be celebrating a dominant win and a well-deserved world title, with young stars like Gusto and Palmer showing that the future is very bright at Stamford Bridge.
