On May 8, Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron joined Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about her new film, The Old Guard 2. But the spotlight quickly shifted to her home life—and her kids’ surprisingly low-key reaction to Mom’s fame.

Theron revealed with a laugh that her daughters Jackson, 12, and August, 9, have “zero respect” for her star power. “There’s a f—— Oscar right there,” she said, holding up the prized statue. “They are so not impressed with me.”

The Atomic Blonde and Mad Max: Fury Road star shared a funny story about filming an intense stunt sequence for her latest movie. She spent two weeks hanging off a real helicopter that was trying to shake her off like a rag doll — a feat she described as “amazing.” But when she tried to impress her kids with the tale, her youngest wasn’t convinced.

While driving August home from dance class, they spotted a Mission: Impossible poster with Tom Cruise clinging to a yellow plane looking impossibly cool. August’s verdict? “It’s weird, he looks so much cooler than you did when you were hanging off the helicopter.”

The audience at Kimmel burst out laughing as Theron confessed she felt a little robbed of credit: “I was just like, ‘I hung off the helicopter, [can I have] some credit?’”

The Old Guard 2 follows Charlize’s character Andy and her team of immortal warriors as they face a new threat, with plenty of high-stakes action and heart-pounding moments. Fans can catch it soon, though it sounds like Theron’s biggest fans might still be Team Cruise at home!
