Fans worried about the future of shonen anime got a reason to cheer when MAPPA released adaptations of Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. While Jujutsu Kaisen moved fast, Chainsaw Man took its time. Reze’s introduction was teased in the first season, but we had to wait for the movie adaptation of the Bomb Girl arc.
The Chainsaw Man movie finally released in India, and for fans of the manga, it’s a treat. The movie picks up right after season one. Denji is still obsessed with Makima and hunting devils with Aki and Power. Things get interesting when he meets Reze on a rainy day at a telephone booth. Denji now has to juggle love and chaos, as two new devils—the Bomb Girl and the Typhoon—enter the mix.
The movie focuses mostly on Denji and Reze, letting their relationship take center stage. Other fan-favorite characters like Beam, Aki, and Angel Devil appear briefly but it’s great to see them on the big screen. Reze’s introduction shows Denji starting to grow emotionally, and anime-only fans will quickly understand why she’s so beloved.
The voice acting is excellent. Kikunosuke Toya brings Denji to life, and Reina Ueda shines as Reze. Her performance is arguably her best of 2025, adding depth and charm to her character.
MAPPA’s animation is a highlight. They moved away from heavy CGI used in season one and went for a fluid 2D style. The dates between Denji and the girls look vibrant, while the latter half of the movie delivers explosive, cinematic action. Fights like Denji vs. Bomb Girl and the Typhoon devil feel epic, with Kensuke Ushio’s energetic score adding to the intensity.
The movie format works perfectly for this arc. The first half shows Denji’s growing romance, while the second half delivers chaos and action. Fujimoto’s signature mix of humor and complex characters shines throughout. Unlike some other shonen adaptations, the pacing never feels off.
