The Met Gala is one of those super-anticipated events that fans around the world love to watch every year—and this year’s gala, held on May 5, definitely didn’t let anyone down. People always chat about the dazzling outfits and the strict rules at the event, but this time, there’s a buzz about celebrities bending one particular rule: the “No-Phone” rule.
Here’s the deal—at the Met Gala, celebrities aren’t supposed to use their phones to snap pics or record videos during the event. It’s meant to keep things exclusive and classy. But this year, it looks like plenty of A-listers quietly ignored that rule.
According to entertainment site Just Jared, stars like Kim Kardashian, Tyla, Chance the Rapper, Laura Harrier, Megan Thee Stallion, and more shared photos and videos from inside the Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Megan Thee Stallion, for example, posted a video while at the event where she even gave her honest opinion about the food. She joked, “We’re not supposed to have our phones, but we’re doing it anyway.” Someone even commented on the clip, warning, “Here before Anna makes you delete this,” referring to Anna Wintour, the famous Met Gala host known for strict rules.
The Met Gala’s official photographer even caught Halle Bailey sneaking a selfie with Sydney Sweeney and Lisa—proof that the phone ban might be more of a suggestion than an actual enforced rule.
This isn’t the first time the “No Phones” rule has been bent at the Met Gala—every year it seems like celebrities find ways to snap a few pics. So maybe it’s more of a tradition than a hard rule after all.
And as if the glitz and glam weren’t enough, this year’s Met Gala buzz hit a new high just before the event when Rihanna surprised everyone by announcing her pregnancy. She and ASAP Rocky are expecting their third child together—they already have two sons, RZA and Riot.
