Canada Market’s top indices:S&P/TSX +0.31%, S&P/TSX 60 +0.47% at opening; SmallCap and Venture Indices decline

As of 9:34 AM ET, major Canadian indices are showing mixed performances. The S&P/TSX Composite Index, which tracks the broad market, gained 76.09 points, or +0.31%, reaching 24,835.49 CAD. The index touched a high of 24,850.84 CAD and a low of 24,783.63 CAD, reflecting some intraday volatility but a solid overall gain.

Meanwhile, the S&P/TSX 60, which follows the performance of the 60 largest companies in Canada, rose by 7.01 points, or +0.47%, to reach 1,489.07 CAD. This reflects continued strength in the largest companies across the Canadian market.

However, smaller-cap stocks are facing pressure today. The S&P/TSX SmallCap Index dropped 7.25 points, or -0.87%, to 828.48 CAD, with a low of 828.27 CAD. This decline is consistent with the weaker performance in smaller companies.

The S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index, which tracks early-stage companies, fell by 6.23 points, or -1.02%, bringing the index down to 603.01 CAD. Similarly, the S&P/TSX Completion Index, which covers smaller companies outside of the top 60, edged down by 5.7 points, or -0.38%, to 1,493.69 CAD.
