Canadian stock markets opened with slight gains this morning, with key indices showing incremental improvements as early trading commenced.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index, Canada’s primary stock market index, climbed 22.94 points to reach 24,660.39, marking a modest increase of 0.0009% since the opening bell. The index saw an early high of 24,703.17 and a low of 24,644.34 in the first half hour of trading.

In the smaller-cap segment, the S&P/TSX Smallcap Index edged up by 0.73 points, or 0.0009%, to reach 831.03. The Smallcap index reached a morning peak of 832.43 with a low of 830.61.

Similarly, the S&P/TSX Venture Index, tracking emerging companies, saw a rise of 1.79 points, translating to a 0.003% gain, positioning it at 603.9. The index briefly touched a high of 603.9 and a low of 601.35.

Finally, the S&P/TSX 60 Index, which represents 60 of the largest companies on the exchange, added 1.5 points for a 0.001% increase, reaching 1,476.66 after peaking at 1,479.60 and hitting a low of 1,475.33.
