Caitlyn Jenner has once again stirred controversy with her views on why more people are coming out as transgender. The 75-year-old former Olympic champion, who publicly transitioned in 2015, claimed that the growing number of people identifying as trans isn’t only about acceptance, but what she called “indoctrination and overexposure.”
Back in 2023, Jenner tweeted that the transgender population was “skyrocketing at levels we have never seen before,” calling the trend “insane” and “disturbing.” She went on to suggest that this rise was driven by “radical leftists” trying to “destroy the family unit” and expand government control. Despite being a trans woman herself, Jenner has often taken stances that surprise and anger parts of the transgender community.
Experts and advocates, however, say the actual reason more people are coming out as trans is because society has become more open and understanding. Increased visibility, media representation, and supportive communities have made it safer for people to be honest about who they are.
Caitlyn’s views have continued to divide opinion. Earlier this year, she praised former U.S. President Donald Trump after he signed an executive order blocking transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. She called it “another victory in the fight for protecting women’s sports,” and said she would keep lobbying sports organizations worldwide to adopt similar policies.
Many people online were confused by her stance, pointing out the contradiction of a transgender woman supporting actions that restrict trans rights. One user commented, “You are so confusing,” while another asked, “Are you really okay with them erasing trans people and everything they’ve fought for?”
The debate has resurfaced after Jennifer Flavin Stallone, wife of actor Sylvester Stallone, also made remarks about what she sees as a rise in transgender children in Hollywood. She suggested that wealthy, unstructured lifestyles might be influencing young people’s gender expression, saying, “These kids are not our accessories. They need structure.”
While both women claim to be speaking from concern, their comments have reignited discussions about misinformation and misunderstanding surrounding transgender identity. Many see their words as part of a broader cultural struggle over how society treats and represents trans people today.
