The Buffalo Bills have been busy this offseason showing appreciation for their standout players by handing out several important contract extensions. Most notably, star quarterback Josh Allen received a record-breaking deal with the highest amount of guaranteed money ever given to an NFL player, securing his place as the team’s franchise cornerstone for years to come.
But Allen wasn’t the only one rewarded. The Bills also signed young talents Khalil Shakir, Christian Benford, Terrel Bernard, and Greg Rousseau to four-year extensions, locking in promising players who have shown they can contribute to the team’s success.
One player who might not always get the spotlight but has been quietly making a big impact is edge rusher Greg Rousseau. Edge rushers are defensive players whose job is to pressure the opposing quarterback and disrupt the offence, and Rousseau has proven to be one of the NFL’s rising stars in this role.
In fact, the respected analytics site Pro Football Focus (PFF) recently ranked Rousseau as the 14th best edge rusher in the entire league, highlighting his consistent high-level play. Ryan Smith, a writer for PFF, praised Rousseau for earning an impressive 82.2 PFF grade in the 2024 season. This marked the third year in a row that Rousseau scored 80 or above, a mark that shows consistent excellence on the field.
Last season, Rousseau matched his personal best by recording eight sacks in the regular season. He didn’t stop there; he added two more sacks during the playoffs, making 2024 the most productive season of his career.
Seeing his value, the Bills rewarded Rousseau with a four-year contract extension worth $80 million, including $54 million in guaranteed money. This shows the team’s confidence that he will continue to be a key player on defence.
Rousseau’s role could become even more important now that fellow elite pass rusher Joey Bosa is on the opposite side of the defensive line. If both stay healthy and keep performing at a high level, the Bills could have one of the best pass-rushing duos in the NFL, a huge advantage that could help them pressure opposing quarterbacks and make big plays to win games.
In short, the Bills are building a strong, talented defence around Rousseau and Bosa, while also securing the future of their star quarterback Josh Allen. With these moves, Buffalo is setting itself up to be a serious contender for years to come.
