The Denver Broncos are entering a developmental phase at the wide receiver position, aiming to grow talent around rookie quarterback Bo Nix. While many expected the team to aggressively pursue offensive weapons in free agency following their playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, the only major addition was tight end Evan Engram. Instead, Denver has opted to build a young and potentially explosive receiving corps through the draft and undrafted free agency.

Among the four undrafted wide receivers brought in, Joaquin Davis stands out as the most intriguing name. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 195 pounds, Davis combines elite speed with impressive size, a physical profile that always draws attention from NFL coaches. A product of North Carolina Central, he finished his college career with 92 receptions for 1,211 yards and 12 touchdowns across three active seasons. Despite playing at a small school, his athleticism and upside are hard to ignore.

A native of Durham, North Carolina, Davis also excelled in high school basketball and had the option to pursue that sport at the collegiate level. That multi-sport background is another positive indicator of his raw athletic talent.

Still, Davis faces a steep climb to make the Broncos’ final 53-man roster. With Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr., Troy Franklin, Devaughn Vele, Pat Bryant, and Trent Sherfield likely occupying the top six wide receiver spots, his chances of cracking the roster rate a 2 out of 10. Injuries could change that picture, but more realistically, Davis is a strong candidate for the practice squad.

The competition for those reserve slots will be stiff, with fellow UDFAs and fringe roster players like A.T. Perry and Michael Bandy in the mix. However, Davis’s combination of length, speed, and athleticism makes him a high-upside developmental prospect. If he makes highlight-worthy plays, whether hauling in deep balls or showcasing contested-catch ability, during training camp or preseason action, the Broncos will likely want to continue developing him.

Unless Davis proves unable to translate his physical gifts to the NFL level, he’s a solid bet to secure a spot on the practice squad and remain a name to watch in the coming years.
