Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden expressed her anxiety over her daughter Hollie pressing the golden buzzer for an act during the latest episode, which aired on Sunday, May 26th. Amanda’s 12-year-old daughter and Simon Cowell’s son, Eric, unexpectedly took to the stage and activated the golden buzzer, sending Japanese double Dutch dancers Haribow straight to the semi-finals.
Amanda shared a clip of the surprising moment on her Instagram, captioning it, “I mean … I thought I was going to get fired as it was so unexpected my #HRH & Eric x even @simoncowell was wobbled but they have the first ever audience GOLDEN BUZZER.” Despite Amanda’s initial concern, the audience found the incident entertaining. One Instagram user commented, “Simon told them to do it however I’m so glad he did. They are amazing my daughter was so excited when they came on. So deserved. We hope they win.”
While many fans loved the unexpected twist, not everyone was pleased. Some viewers criticized the show for feeling staged, with one commenter stating, “This is why I can’t watch – completely staged & scripted. It’s ruined what was a good show.” Another added, “Everything about this series seems very staged and pointless.”
The act in question, Haribow, had already received a standing ovation from the audience. The judges had exhausted their golden buzzer options, making Hollie and Eric’s intervention a delightful surprise for many. A fan on X (formerly Twitter) said, “Got to admit, it was adorable seeing Hollie and Eric press it together. They’re like brother and sister.” Another viewer pointed out, “My view is if Eric and Hollie are allowed to press the Golden Buzzer and have it count Stephen’s Golden Buzzer for David Watson should have counted too…”
The week-long Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals will be hosted by Ant and Dec from Monday, May 27th until Friday, May 31st.
