Two well-known boxers, Jaime Munguia and Francisco Rodriguez Jr., have recently tested positive for banned substances under the WBC’s Clean Boxing Program. This means both fighters have had “adverse findings” show up in their drug tests, and the WBC is now officially reviewing their cases.
Jaime Munguia, the former WBO super-welterweight champion from Tijuana, tested positive after his recent win in Riyadh on May 3rd. He had just beaten Bruno Surace in a rematch, getting revenge for a tough knockout loss to him last year. The WBC says they’ve already been in direct contact with Munguia’s team, who are fully cooperating and have submitted documents to help with the investigation.
As for Francisco “Chihuas” Rodriguez Jr., his test result came after his last fight, a huge win over Olympic gold medallist Galal Yafai, where he broke punch records and dominated the scorecards. Rodriguez is also working with the WBC as they begin their formal review.
These findings came through testing by VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association), which works closely with the WBC as part of its Clean Boxing Program. The program, launched in 2015, is one of the biggest efforts in boxing to keep the sport clean and fair.
For now, both fighters are under review. No final decisions or punishments have been announced. The WBC says it will keep evaluating the evidence before making any rulings.
