Remember the Borderlands movie? Most of us really enjoyed it, at least that’s how it feels! Well, the people who made Borderlands, Gearbox, are back again with something exciting: a brand-new game called Borderlands 4.
This new game was first shown to fans in February 2025 during PlayStation’s big online event called State of Play. Since then, we’ve found out exactly when the game will come out, and we’ve even gotten to see some of the new story and gameplay in action. It looks like there’s a lot of fun and chaos coming our way!
There’s also been a bit of drama involving Randy Pitchford (a well-known name in the Borderlands world), but let’s not get distracted by that. The focus right now is on all the exciting stuff in the game!
So, let’s dive in and take a closer look at the Borderlands 4 release date, what the story is about, how the game will play, trailers, and everything else we know so far.
Borderlands 4 release date: When is Borderlands 4 releasing?
The makers of Borderlands, Gearbox Entertainment, have finally announced when Borderlands 4 is coming out. The big day is 12th September 2025, which was previously 23rd September. They told us this exciting news during PlayStation’s State of Play event in February 2025.
Fans are really hoping that this release date doesn’t change and that the game comes out on time without any delays. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly!
Can I pre-order Borderlands 4 yet?
Right now, you can’t pre-order Borderlands 4. The people making the game haven’t talked about opening up pre-orders yet, so you’ll have to wait a little longer if you were planning to book your copy early.
But if you’re really excited and want to keep an eye on it, there’s a way! You can add the game to your wishlist on websites like Steam, the Microsoft Store, or the PlayStation Store. That way, you’ll get a notification when it becomes available, and you won’t miss any updates.
As of now, we also don’t know the price of the game. There’s been no word about any special pre-order bonuses (like extra content or cool items) or different versions of the game (like deluxe or collector’s editions).
The good news is, we might get all this info very soon! There’s going to be a special Borderlands 4 event called State of Play, happening sometime this spring. That’s when we’re likely to hear everything about pre-orders, prices, and editions.
Once all the details are out, we’ll make sure to update this page with the latest news and the best pre-order deals we can find, so you’ll know exactly where to buy it and what you’re getting.
Consoles and platforms that can play Borderlands 4
Borderlands 4 will be released on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. So if you have one of these newer gaming systems, you’re all set to play the game when it comes out.
A few years back, one of the main people behind the game, Randy Pitchford, shared online how much he loved Unreal Engine 5, that is a fancy tool used to make video games look and feel amazing. Because of that, most people believe Borderlands 4 will be made using this powerful engine.
Now, what does that mean for older consoles like the PS4 or Xbox One? Well, since Unreal Engine 5 is made for newer tech, it’s very likely that Borderlands 4 won’t be released on last-gen consoles. So if you’re still using those older systems, this game probably won’t work on them.
But here’s something interesting: there are rumours about the next version of the Nintendo Switch, often called Switch 2. If the leaked info is true and the new Switch has stronger hardware, then there’s a chance Borderlands 4 might come to that system too.
Of course, nothing about that is confirmed yet. But don’t worry, as soon as the creators make an official announcement or share new info, we’ll let you know right away.
Borderlands 4 story details and gameplay
Now we finally know that Borderlands 4 will give us four brand-new characters to play as. These characters are called Vault Hunters, and they’ll be exploring a totally new planet. From what we’ve seen in the trailer, this planet isn’t peaceful; it looks like a huge war is going on there!
The four new heroes you can choose in Borderlands 4 are:
-
Vex the Siren – Sirens always have magical, powerful abilities in the Borderlands world.
-
Rafa the Exo-Soldier – A tough fighter, probably using high-tech armour and big weapons.
-
Harlowe the Gravitar – Sounds like someone who can control gravity in cool ways.
-
Amon the Forgeknight – Likely a strong warrior with heavy gear and close-range attacks.
And yes, for longtime Borderlands fans, you’ll be happy to hear that there are tons of new weapons! That’s one of the most fun parts of the game: finding all kinds of wild, crazy guns. Plus, this time there are also new ways to move around, so the game feels faster, smoother, and more fun to play.
As for the story, you’re going up against a brand-new villain called the Timekeeper. He’s described as a ruthless tyrant, which means he’s a really mean and powerful enemy. Your job will be to take him down, and you can do that either by yourself or with a group of up to four friends playing together.
We don’t know much more yet, because the trailer was mostly about cool visuals and action. But based on what we’ve seen, the game will still have the funny, weird sense of humour that Borderlands is famous for. And with all the new ways to move, fight, and use vehicles, the game is definitely adding some exciting twists.
Borderlands 4 trailer
Yes, there is a trailer for Borderlands 4, and actually, by now, there are a few different trailers released.
The first one was a sneak peek; it gave us our first look at the game, the new world, and the main characters. If you haven’t watched it yet, it’s definitely worth checking out! It’s exciting, colourful, and gives a nice idea of what the new game feels like.
The most recent trailer was shown during the PlayStation State of Play event in February 2025. This one showed even more action, with tons of crazy new guns, fast-paced battles, and some of the game’s cool new features. Plus, it also confirmed the release date, so fans finally got to mark their calendars!
Each trailer so far has been full of that classic Borderlands style: wild action, weird humour, and over-the-top characters. If you’re hyped for the game, the trailers will definitely get you even more excited.
