Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds will not be attending the 2025 Met Gala, a decision confirmed by a source close to the couple. The reason for their absence was explained simply: “She’s not a Kardashian that goes every year.” Lively and Reynolds have attended the Met Gala several times, including their co-hosting role in 2022 alongside Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda. However, they’ve never been consistent attendees like some other celebrities.
The 2025 Met Gala, scheduled for May 5, will have the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” and will be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as an honorary chair.
Lively and Reynolds’ decision to skip the event comes amid their involvement in a legal dispute with actor and filmmaker Justin Baldoni. Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024, accusing him of sexual harassment and orchestrating a smear campaign. Baldoni denied the allegations and countersued for defamation in January 2025, seeking $400 million in damages. Lively and Reynolds have both filed motions to dismiss the lawsuit.
Lively’s spokesperson explained that the lawsuit is part of a broader issue, noting that individuals who report harassment or discrimination, as protected under California’s AB 933 law, often face defamation lawsuits. Baldoni’s attorney responded strongly, accusing Lively of misusing the legal system.
Despite this legal situation, Lively and Reynolds have remained visible in other public events, such as attending the SNL50: The Anniversary Special in February 2025. Their last Met Gala appearance was in 2022, where Lively’s Versace gown created a buzz with its reversible train that transformed from copper to green.
