The Buffalo Bills are once again serious contenders to win the Super Bowl in 2025, but there’s still one weak spot on their roster: the safety position.
NFL writer Matt Holder from Bleacher Report thinks the Bills should fix that by trading for veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu, who currently plays for the New Orleans Saints. Mathieu, also known as the “Honey Badger,” won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and is known for his leadership, versatility, and ability to make big plays in both run defence and pass coverage.
Holder points out that while the Bills added some depth at safety this offseason, they didn’t make any major upgrades. Bringing in Mathieu could give Buffalo a dependable, experienced player to pair with the rest of their strong defence, especially after losing in the AFC Championship again to the Chiefs.
If the Saints are open to parting with the 33-year-old defender as part of their rebuild, the Bills’ front office should definitely consider making a move. Mathieu would be a clear upgrade over the current backup Damar Hamlin and could be just the boost Buffalo needs to get over the hump and reach the Super Bowl finally.
