While promoting The Accountant 2 on Theo Von’s podcast, Ben Affleck opened up about his sympathy for Britney Spears during her darkest moments. Affleck recalled witnessing the intense paparazzi harassment Spears faced early in her career, which contributed to her 2007 meltdown.

Affleck said, “Years ago, I really had a lot of empathy for Britney Spears,” acknowledging how the relentless media pressure seemed to exacerbate her struggles. Though he doesn’t know Spears personally, Affleck understood how the constant yelling and following by photographers could “whip things into a tizzy.”

He described this as a form of “collective cruelty,” likening the media to people “waving the stick at the tiger,” provoking celebrities until they react. Affleck noted that many times stars appear annoyed because they’re simply being poked and prodded relentlessly.

Currently, Affleck is gearing up to reprise his role as Christian Wolff in The Accountant 2, starring alongside Jon Bernthal.
