The long-awaited Season 2 update for Battlefield 6 hasn’t managed to draw many players back. On Steam, the game peaked at just over 92,000 concurrent users on February 17, the day the update launched after a month-long delay. That’s only a small rise from the day before and still below numbers seen in late January. Data for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S isn’t public, but it doesn’t look like the update made much difference on consoles either.

Battlefield 6 originally launched last year after a five-year gap following the poorly received Battlefield 2042. The game got mostly positive reviews and had over 747,000 players at launch on Steam. It also became the best-selling game of 2025. But the player count has been falling steadily, down 89% from its peak.

Players cite several reasons for leaving, including disappointing post-launch support, technical issues with updates, and a lack of content. The delayed Season 2 gave some hope that the update would be polished based on player feedback. Yet even after it went live, the impact was minimal, with only a modest increase in Steam users.

Developers were clearly hoping Season 2 would bring back old players or attract new ones, but that hasn’t materialized so far. Launching on a weekday may have limited early numbers, but even weekend growth is unlikely to be significant, especially as Battlefield 6 is still trailing behind Call of Duty on consoles.

One major factor seems to be content. While Black Ops 7’s update added multiple maps, weapons, and modes, Battlefield 6 offered just a single new map and a few weapons. Many players criticized the update, saying it wasn’t enough given the long delay. Overall, the Season 2 update has struggled to reignite excitement among the game’s audience.
