Amber Heard’s role in Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom was greatly reduced.
The movie’s runtime was 124 minutes, while the actress appeared on screen for only 15 to 20 minutes, as per reports by Business Insider.
Reportedly, Heard only had a total of 11 lines for her character as Mera throughout the entire film.
Many of Mera’s lines were reduced down to relatively simple expressions in the superhero film.
Heard mostly featured in the beginning and the end of the movie, and remained largely absent from the central plot.
In contrast, Heard’s character Mera prominently featured in the first Aquaman movie, which was released in December 2018.
Former Warner Bros CEO Walter Hamada, as per TMZ, stated that Heard’s role was reduced due to the lack of chemistry between her and Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman.
At the time, it was speculated that the reason behind reducing her role was due to the actress’ on-going trial with her former husband Johnny Depp.
However, the DC Studios denied that her trial was the reason behind the reduction.
The much publicized trail, which was ultimately settled in Depp’s favor, brought negative attention to Heard. She then moved to Spain to remain out of limelight. The actress did not participate in any of the movie’s publicity.
